How do you personally help others in need?

If I see somebody in need, I help as much as I can. I want my children to grow up believing that you should help if you can, but to also know when to cut their losses and not get taken advantage of. We volunteer at two shelters, one being a homeless shelter and one being an abused women's shelter. I give time, money, food, clothes, toys etc. If somebody actually needs the help and aren't spending their money on drugs and alcohol instead of food for their children, I will help as much as possible as long as my children aren't affected in anyway. My kids will not go without what they need so I can support somebody else, but if I have the means no problem.
